Prof Tyobeka received the award in recognition of his contribution to the global governance of the nuclear industry, his efforts to promote collaboration between SA and France, and his pursuit of academic excellence.

The principal and vice-chancellor of the North-West University received the award from French ambassador, David Martinon, on behalf of French president, Emmanuel Macron.
